Sudan’s military early on Thursday launched an operation aimed at taking control of areas of the capital that had been in the hands of its enemy, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. A spokesperson for the U.N. human rights office told The Associated Press that at least 78 civilians were killed by the fighting in the Khartoum area since the beginning of September.
