Soldiers of the Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence International Legion performed a haka – a rhythmic Māori chant - to honour their fallen comrade, New Zealander Dominic Abelen. According to the Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence (GUR), Abelen, whose 'nom de guerre' was "Tolkien" and was of Māori descent, was killed in combat near Vuhledar, Donetsk region in August 2022.
