Inuk leader Mary Simon appointed as Canada’s first Indigenous governor general
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he “cannot think of a better person to meet the moment” than Mary Simon, an Inuk leader and former diplomat, to become Canada's next governor general. Trudeau introduced Simon during a news conference Tuesday. Natan Obed, president of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, served on the selection advisory panel and feels Simon's appointment shows Canada is moving forward.
