Retaliation key to ending trade dispute: PM

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada's retaliatory tariffs on American goods were key to restoring free access to the U.S. market for Canadian steel and aluminum. Trudeau paid a visit Tuesday to Aluminerie Alouette, an aluminum plant in Sept-Iles, Que., where he was joined by CEO Patrice L'Huillier in celebrating last week’s agreement to end punitive U.S. duties on Canadian metal exports. The U.S. imposed import taxes of 25 per cent on Canadian steel and 10 per cent on aluminum a year ago as a pressure tactic when negotiations on a new North American free-trade agreement got difficult.
