Health advocacy groups urge Ottawa to create single-payer pharmacare

A group of health advocacy organizations is urging the federal government to keep working to create a universal, single-payer pharmacare program in spite of fiscal challenges. Frédérique Chabot, executive director of Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, says government officials appear to be seriously considering a different approach that would provide coverage for people without private insurance. An expert committee is set to report to the health minister Oct. 10 with its recommendations for a future national pharmacare program. (Sept. 22, 2025)
