Greener steel arrives to a market in turmoil

Algoma Steel is making metal products greener by melting them with the heat cast off by powerful electrical currents. The company made its first so-called green steel in July from its new electric arc furnace and is now working to ramp up operations on the more than $880-million system that should slash emissions by up to 70 per cent. (Aug. 10, 2025).
